Cornell Abroad administers undergraduate study overseas during a semester or full academic year. More than 500 students from all the colleges study abroad in over 40 countries annually. Roughly a third enroll in programs run directly by Cornell, the rest enroll in programs run by other American colleges study abroad organizations or directly in universities overseas. Our goal is a close integration of academic work with study on the Ithaca campus.
Pre-Departure orientation and returning student services
Cornell Abroad is governed by the following University policies:
Students apply through Cornell Abroad with the signatures of their college study abroad advisor and their faculty advisor
A 3.0 grade point average, higher for some universities, is generally required
Students remain registered in their college while they are abroad
They retain full eligibility for Cornell financial aid exactly as if they were here on campus
They take a full course load abroad, however that is defined by the host program or institution
abroad, and receive 15 credits for a semester, 30 credits for an academic year, for work
completed with grades equivalent to Cornell grade of C grade or higher
Course titles and grades are recorded on the Cornell transcript in the same wording and format
in which they are received from abroad; they are not averaged into the Cornell GPA
College faculty determine the allocation of credit within major fields; college study abroad
advisors and registrars allocate elective and distribution credit
