It is never too early to start thinking about studying abroad!
Typically, students work with their College Study Abroad Advisor and Cornell Abroad approximately one year prior to studying abroad. Students who are Pre-Med/Pre-Vet, in Engineering fields, or who want to conduct their studies in a foreign language should plan early.
Application Dates to Remember:
Spring:
Recommended: May 30
Final: early Sept. - mid-Oct., varies by program
(allow 3 weeks for internal processing)
[Note: Oxford/Cambridge: March 1--extremely limited spaces in humanities only]
Fall/Year:
Recommended: December 20
Final: February - April, varies by program
[Note: Oxford/Cambridge: November 1]
Most programs admit students by rolling admission and some may be full before their final deadline. Earlier applicants may have distinct advantages in getting the classes or housing they desire.
More info on final application deadlines
Make sure that your College Study Abroad Advisor and Cornell Abroad have time to review and process your application in advance of the program's final deadline.
Human Ecology requests applications 30 days before they are due to the program.
Arts & Sciences and ILR 3 weeks should be sufficient for processing
CALS, AAP, and Hotel require much less time, at peak periods allow 2 weeks to cover processing through the college, Cornell Abroad, and the postal system.
Engineering can process applications quickly once course approvals are done. Allow plenty of time to work with faculty on a proposed course of study.
