Program Description:
2014 trimesters will begin on January 13th, May 5th, and September 1st .
Students are asked to arrive at least 1 week early for orientation.


Spend an entire trimester at EARTH, taking classes with regular EARTH students while being fully integrated into EARTH’s community and student life. As a participant in our Trimester Program, you will:
  • Expand your global understanding and build your international experience
  • Gain practical experience in rural development, tropical agriculture and sustainability issues
  • Enjoy Costa Rica’s natural and cultural beauty
  • Be part of a multi-cultural student community committed to building a more prosperous and just society
  • Sharpen your Spanish
For 15 weeks, you will join EARTH’s unique academic program, taking courses in the environmental sciences, organic agriculture, sustainability, community development and Latin American studies.

The courses are taught in Spanish..  An advanced level of Spanish is required. An adequate level will be determined by at least two semesters of university level Spanish classes and an assessment interview.

*These fees do not include plane tickets, ground transportation to and from the airport, $29 airport exit tax, personal expenses, international medical insurance (mandatory), visa fees when applicable (please inquire with us whether you will need a visa).
** A $100 cash deposit will be assessed to cover incidentals, such as library penalties, lost dorm keys.

** Programs may fill long before their final deadline. * Recommendation--For SPRING: APPLY in MAY to study abroad the following spring. For FALL/YEAR: APPLY in DECEMBER. Late applications may be accepted, but colleges typically need time to process your approval.
