Program Description:

ACADEMICS

  • BSME instructors are members of Eötvös University, the Mathematical Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the three institutions known for having educated more than half of Hungary’s highly acclaimed mathematicians.

  • A semester in BSME lasts 15 weeks (14 weeks of classes and 1 week of exams). 

  • Classes meet two to three times per week (56 contact hours per semester)

  • Classes stress problem solving, foster student creativity, and support group learning

  • A wide variety of mathematical courses is offered

  • We recommend that BSME participants take four courses, although this may vary according to the individual.  We strongly recommend that participants take at least three of the BSME courses listed here.

  • Note: We recognize the different backgrounds of BSME participants, and we will work with each participant to come up with a course load that best suits his or her needs.

  • Completed first theory course in analysis or abstract algebra\

To complete the BSME application, the following materials are required and will be deployed to you electronically once you start an application by clicking the "APPLY NOW" button:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Two letters of recommendation (see below)
  • Official transcript(s) from all colleges/universities attended (sent directly from Registrar’s Office or equivalent)
Two letters of recommendation are required, according to the following guidelines:
  • At least one letter must be written by a mathematics professor.
  • It is suggested (but not required) that at least one letter addresses the applicant’s interest and potential for teaching.


Important Notes:

  • They accept applications on a rolling basis. Your application will be reviewed after all required parts have been submitted. Apply early!
  • Most schools have specific requirements students must fulfill before they study abroad. It is important that you check with your college/university to make sure you meet these requirements and will receive BSME transfer credit and all possible financial aid.
  • Participants must be undergraduates who are in their second year of college or above by the time they enter BSME, or recent graduates.
