Program Description:

Queen Mary, University of London - Study Abroad Programme

Queen Mary is one of the largest colleges of the world renowned University of London, with are over 15,000 students, about 15 per cent of whom are from overseas, contributing to a truly cosmopolitan environment that is extremely welcoming to students from all over the world.

Queen Mary has a fully integrated teaching, research and residential campus in the east end of London. Our unique setting gives you the benefits of a large campus environment as well as access to the countless academic and social opportunities of London - one of the great world cities!

Students are offered accommodation on campus – highly unusual for a university located in central London. The Mile End campus is a peaceful, secure and friendly environment only a few yards from the bustle of Mile End Road and the East End of London, with a host of facilities together on one site: cafés, bars and restaurants, the Students' Union, canal-side accommodation in our Student Village, bank and bookshop. We are very well served by public transport with two tube stations a short walk from campus.

The East End is one of the most vibrant, exciting and culturally diverse areas of London. There is something for everyone: street markets, parks, cafes, restaurants, pubs, museums and galleries. Brick Lane, which is in walking distance from the campus, is famous for its eclectic market, Indian restaurants, 24 hour bagel shops and is also now home to a growing number of artists and designers. It may not be the most famous area of the city, but it is certainly worth getting to know.

Queen Mary is also very close to the site of the 2012 Olympic Games with the main stadium being less than 1 mile from campus. The 2012 Olympics will take place in a host of new venues in the local area and the area is being transformed in preparation. Many of the new facilities will be reused and the plans are part of the regeneration of the east end of London.

Study Abroad Programme

London is a leading destination for Study Abroad students and the Queen Mary programme offers you a fully integrated academic experience. You can choose to study for between a full academic year or an Autumn (Fall) or Spring semester. A full course load is four modules for each semester of study. All subject areas are open to Study Abroad students and you can choose to concentrate in one area or choose modules from up to four different subject areas. All departments offer pre-registration and there is seldom any problem in getting into any required classes.

Accommodation

All accommodation on campus is in modern, self-catered flats. All rooms are single and most have en suite (private) bathroom facilities. Typically rooms are grouped in flats for between 4 and 11 students with shared kitchen facilities.

All rooms are carpeted, equipped with a single bed, wash basin, wardrobe, fridge, bookshelves, desk, chair, desk lamp and storage space, data points for (free) Internet connections.  Shared Kitchens are equipped with refrigerators/freezers, cookers, storage cupboards, food preparation and dining areas.

All Queen Mary housing is fully integrated so you will be sharing with other students both from the UK and other countries around the world.  All accommodation is centrally heated and fees are inclusive of all heating and electricity charges.

Student Village

Study Abroad students live in the College's award winning Student Village located on the Mile End Campus which provides self-catering accommodation for 1200 students, staff and academic visitors in six different styles of building designed to create a village community feel.   The village is the largest student campus in London and as well as accommodation features landscaped spaces, launderettes, a canal-side café-bar, restaurant and coffee bar, student union offices and shop. A security office (staffed 24 hours per day) is also on- site.
